Teaneck, NJ – September 23, 2024 - Over 250 residents gathered at Guerriero Gelato & Cakes for the “Get the Scoop” event, where community members had the opportunity to meet with former Teaneck mayors and local leaders. Attendees enjoyed 208 scoops of ice cream while engaging in meaningful conversations about the future of Teaneck.

The event featured former Mayors Paul Ostrow, Jim Dunleavy, Elie Y. Katz, and Kevie Feit, as well as former Township Manager Dean Kazinci. The diverse crowd raised real questions, tackling the hard issues facing Teaneck today. Councilwoman Karen Lew Orgen remarked, “The visitors at Guerriero’s were a diverse group who asked real questions, not easy ones.” Orgen emphasized the importance of addressing these pressing matters and fostering open dialogue with residents to ensure the continued growth and well-being of the township.

Deputy Mayor Elie Y. Katz found his calling as the “Sampler” for the evening, standing behind the counter at Guerriero’s in a branded apron and handing out sample sticks of ice cream flavors with a big smile. “There’s nothing better than serving up ice cream while serving up solutions for our community,” Katz quipped, sharing his enthusiasm for the fun yet productive event.

Mark J. Schwartz also took a moment to address the guests, focusing on the importance of smart redevelopment in maintaining Teaneck’s quality of life. He advised, “The key to a sustainable quality of life is smart redevelopment. If the funding doesn’t come from these smart developments, it will come out of the residents’ pockets. We all chose this place to live, so why not keep it an ideal place to live, work, and play?”

The event was a major success, and the campaign looks forward to continuing the community engagement with upcoming events. Next up, the campaign will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month on Wednesday, October 9, at Elsa’s on 1515 Teaneck Rd, starting at 7:00 PM. Join us for a night of live music, celebration and conversation!
